Game Development Club

The purpose of this club is to bring together students of different disciplines in order to explore the creation of video games. The club also seeks to expand its members’ knowledge of the tools, techniques, and processes used in contemporary video game development. Members will collaborate on game development projects of their own choosing and explore their creativity in the game development space.

[ISU_GDC] Minimum Viable Product

Greetings from the Iowa State Game Development Club.

General Meeting

Game ideas can big lofty goals or small projects.

Either way, knowing where to draw the line for a Minimum Viable Product is essential for planning out how you will reach those goals!

You need to know what features are essential to your game and what you can put off till your core gameplay is secure.

This week we will be talking about what a Minimum Viable Product is and how to know what parts of your game you should make first.

As usual, we will meet in Carver 0205 at 7PM this Monday for our general meeting.

Workspace

Pixel Art is a great way for artists of every level to make art for games!

It is a great mix to make simple art assets for your game.

This week’s workshop will be on how to make pixel art.

As usual, we will be meeting in Carver 0305 at 1PM for our weekly workshops.

General Meeting (2/18)

What can you do to make your game feel better to play?

This is the core question behind the concept of this week’s topic Game Feel.

This week we will be in Durham 0171 for our general meeting.

We will be meeting at 7PM on Monday as usual.

We will be back in Carver 0205 next week.

Workspace

This week we will be having our first Workshop Challenge.

This workshop challenge will be focusing on making your own enemies.

We will start you with a basic game in Unity and then you get to add in the enemies!

Come and experiment with your own enemy designs.

Great for both new and experienced members!

As usual, we will be meeting in Carver 0305 at 1PM for our weekly workshops.

GDC Social Night

Today Friday the 1st we will be holding a social night.

It will start at 7PM in Marston 2200.

There will be plenty of games and screens so feel free to bring your own games to share.

Also, we will have pizza for those who have paid dues.

It is not too late to pay dues or get our 2019 GDC T-shirt.

 

General Meeting

Every game needs sounds.

This Monday we will be talking about the sound of games and how to discover the right sound for your game.

Come and join us for a meeting all about Sound Design.

The Game Jam will start this Friday as opposed to what was stated in the last email.

ISU_GDC] GAME JAM Friday!!

Greetings from the Iowa State Game Development Club.

Global Game Jam - 6PM Friday, January 25th through 6PM Sunday @ Marston 2300

Global GAME JAM!!!

Global Game Jam is hosting their annual worldwide game jam in two weeks!

The Global Game Jam will start at 5:30PM Friday January 25th and go through 9PM Sunday.

Due to rooming constraints we will be in Marston 2300 this year instead of our usual Elings rom.

A game jam is where you can set aside a weekend to make a game and have fun.

No experience required!

Come as a team or by yourself.

There will be plenty of teams looking for more people to join.

Everyone and anyone interested should come to our kick off at 5:30 on Friday.

There you will learn the theme and form teams.

Most people work in Marston for the majority of the Jam but you are free to come and go as you wish for food, sleep and anything else.

There will be plenty of experienced club members in the Marston room for any questions you may have.


 

General Meeting

We will be talking about how to take your game idea and boil it down to an Elevator Pitch!

This week, we will be meeting in general meetings in Durham 0171 at 7PM this Monday.

We will be back in Carver 0205 Next Week.
