Description of Regular Meetings/Activities

Practice for Regional and National ESA conference Entomology Games competitions and plan for upcoming events/fundraising opportunities throughout the year, including Insect Film Festival, Insect Collecting 101, Nevada PTA event, etc.

Description of Special Events

Insect Film Festival - Provide Movie and entertainment to students/children/members of the community once a year to increase the public's awareness of different insects, their biology and also how they affect human populations in general. Overall a fun and educational family-oriented experience for members of the community. Invite a guest speaker for EGSO sponsored Seminar - Invited guest speaker will update members of the Department of Entomology about current topics in the field. This seminar is open to other undergraduate students/graduate students/faculty/staff in other departments of the University as well.
Insect Collecting 101 - fundraising event on the same day as Bug Village (usually late August) where EGSO members give presentations on a general background about insects and how to collect and preserve them. Attendees of all ages and backgrounds can buy insect kits to create their own collections. Part of the event involves taking the attendees around campus to collect insects (primarily Science II prairie and Pammel woods).
