Culture/Identity Based

Description

During the pandemic, "The Cookout" was started by members of Cornerstone Church who wanted to foster community amid the isolation—especially for multicultural individuals and those seeking a gospel-centered, Christian environment. The first event took place over Zoom in February 2020 and has since been hosted at students’ homes and at Cornerstone Church on the last Friday of every month. Jarryd Cole (515-291-6260), one of the four original founders and a University of Iowa alumnus, has since stepped back from an active role but has passed the torch to students to continue and expand The Cookout. Leaders like Teagan Lipsey and Peter Oyebanji, both now Iowa State alumni have carried the mission forward and have brought in new leaders, including myself and other students connected to Iowa State or Salt Company Ames. Given that many of the current organizers and attendees are Iowa State students, we are now seeking official recognition and classification as an Iowa State Student Organization.
