Description

Central Asian Student Association at Iowa State University is a culture- and identity-based student organization dedicated to building a supportive community for students from Central Asia and those interested in the region. The organization promotes cultural awareness, inclusion, and cross-cultural understanding by celebrating the histories, traditions, and shared experiences of Central Asian countries, including Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. The association provides a welcoming space for students to connect, share their culture, and support one another academically and socially. Through cultural programming, educational initiatives, and collaboration with other student organizations, the group aims to increase visibility of Central Asian cultures on campus and contribute to a more inclusive university community.

Elections/Selection Officer elections are held once per academic year during the spring semester, typically in April, to select leadership for the following academic year. Elections are conducted during a general body meeting and are open to active members in good standing. If a position becomes vacant during the year, a special election or appointment may be held to ensure continuity of leadership.
Meetings General body meetings are held bi-weekly during the fall and spring semesters. Meetings take place in person on campus, with the option for virtual attendance when necessary. Meetings focus on organizational updates, event planning, cultural discussions, and community-building activities. Additional meetings may be scheduled as needed for officers or committees.

Description of Regular Meetings/Activities

Community Socials – Informal gatherings to help members connect and build a sense of community.
Collaborative Cultural Events – Joint events with other cultural or international student organizations.
