Elections/Selection Elections for the Global Health Innovation Lab at Iowa State University are held annually at the end of the spring semester. All active members are eligible to run for officer positions and vote in elections. The process includes a nomination period followed by a fair and transparent vote, ensuring leadership reflects the interests of the membership.
Meetings Meetings for the Global Health Innovation Lab at Iowa State University are typically held biweekly during the academic semester. Additional meetings may be scheduled as needed for special projects, workshops, or preparation for conferences and competitions. Meetings provide opportunities for members to collaborate on projects, hear from guest speakers, and participate in planning club activities.

Description of Regular Meetings/Activities

Weekly Innovation Lab Meetings Members meet weekly to discuss current global health challenges (e.g., infectious diseases, health inequities, climate and health, maternal health, mental health, access to care). Each meeting focuses on brainstorming innovative, interdisciplinary solutions using technology, policy, and community-based approaches. Solution Design Workshops Hands-on sessions where members work in small teams to develop project ideas, prototypes, or intervention models addressing specific global health problems. These workshops emphasize design thinking, collaboration, and real-world feasibility. Guest Speaker Series Invite global health professionals, researchers, clinicians, NGO leaders, entrepreneurs, and public health advocates to speak about their work, career paths, and innovations in global health. Competitions & Challenges Participation Members will participate in SDG-related competitions, global health case competitions, startup challenges, and innovation hackathons at the campus, regional, and national levels. Project-Based Team Initiatives Semester-long group projects focused on creating scalable global health solutions, such as health education campaigns, low-cost medical tools, data-driven interventions, or policy proposals. Collaboration with Other Student Organizations Partner with pre-health, engineering, business, and sustainability clubs to promote interdisciplinary innovation and broaden student involvement. Research & Case Study Discussions Review and discuss global health research articles, case studies, and policy briefs to strengthen members’ understanding of evidence-based solutions. Community & Global Engagement Activities Engage in local or global outreach efforts, including volunteer initiatives, awareness campaigns, and fundraising events supporting global health causes. Professional Development Sessions Workshops on topics such as grant writing, social entrepreneurship, leadership, public speaking, and global health career pathways.
