Eta Sigma Phi is an honorary organization for outstanding students in Latin and Greek language courses at Iowa State. The Classics Club is a subcommittee of Eta Sigma Phi at Iowa State that is also devoted to the culture of the Classical world (including Greece, Rome, and Egypt), literature, history, etc. but has less strict requirements for membership.

Allowed Officers Elected students
Membership Qualifications Interest in classics (Greece and Rome), is required. You do not have to be a Classical Studies minor or major. In order to be a member, just contact one of the officers and let us know you are interested! In order to be an officer, you must have a cumulative GPA of 2.00. We are a subcommittee of the Iowa State Chapter of Eta Sigma Phi. In order to join Eta Sigma Phi, you must have completed two semesters of Latin and have a minimum GPA of 3.50. However, you do not need to be in Eta Sigma Phi in order to be a part of Classics Club.
Membership Restrictions No restrictions, just interest in classics!
Elections/Selection We will hold elections at the end of each school year during our last club meeting.
Meetings Every other Thursday starting January 31st, 2019.

Description of Regular Meetings/Activities

We meet every other Wednesday in Pearson 3131 at 6 P.M. We hold a variety of events, from history/mythology presentations from our club members to mock archaeological digs.

Description of Special Events

Our special events will be mass emailed to everyone on our email list. Our special events include potential visits to Classical related museums in the Midwest or a movie night with a Classical themed movie.
