Good Earth Student Farm is a student-run organization where students, faculty, staff, and local community members grow produce to aid in reducing food insecurity at Iowa State.

We lease growing plots at the Horticulture Research Station (pictured above). After participating members take their workshare home, we share our harvest with SHOP (Students Helping Our Peers), the food pantry on campus.

In the last two years (2023-2024), Good Earth has donated over 6,000 lbs. of fresh produce to SHOP! And our members taking home a ton on top of that!

Future Events

  • All summer - Work shifts: Sundays 7am, Mondays 4pm, Wednesdays 4pm. Carpool available!

  • Off-season meetings (hybrid) - Wednesdays @ 5:30 in Student Innovation Center (Discord lounge link)

Working on the Farm

You do not need any experience with farming or gardening to join! This is a great way to gain hands-on experience with small scale farming practices.

Before working on the Farm, register as a club member by selecting 'Join' in the upper-right corner. Then contact a Good Earth Officer (via Discord below; or email - goodearthofficers@iastate.edu) for current working schedules on the Farm. We also ask you to complete our Workshare Agreement.

Good Earth news

Left to right - Good Earth members, Manish and Luda, accept the Commitment to Service award (April 2023); the crew shows off an afternoon's harvest (Sept. 2024); Good Earth members donate to SHOP (Sept. 2023)
