The Underwater Robotics Club is a student-led team that designs, builds, and pilots our own remotely operated vehicle (ROV) to compete in the MATE ROV Competition.
MATE ROV is an international engineering challenge in which teams are given a limited time window to pilot their ROV through a series of mission-based tasks. Each year introduces a new set of problem scenarios, requiring us to design, test, and refine our ROV to complete those tasks.
What You'll Do
As a member, you’ll work alongside others to design, build, and test an underwater robot. We have 3 technical subteams (Mechanical, Electrical, and Programming), and you'll be a part of what you're interested in. This can include:
- Designing and CADing parts
- Building and assembling waterproof systems
- Wiring electronics and working with control systems
- Programming movement and controls
- Testing in water and troubleshooting
- Piloting the ROV
We also have non-technical roles within the club:
- Fundraising
- Business & Sponsorships
- Social Media
- Outreach Events
No Experience Needed
We welcome students from all majors and all experience levels. You don’t need prior experience, we’ll teach you everything you need to know. Many members join with little to no background and learn as they go.
Communication
Our main form of communication is Discord, where we'll post updates like meeting times, locations, and events! Click here to join our Discord!
Meeting Times
We have meetings on Sundays from 12–2PM at the SIC. Specific rooms and any changes will be posted in advance via Discord. Times may vary based on workload.
We don't have scheduled General Meetings unless needed, so those will also be announced via Discord
